Pregnant Belly Abodes

The House SH by Hiroshi Nakamura is Inspired by a Kangaroo Pouch

If an inanimate architectural creation could become pregnant, it would look like the House SH. It boasts a swollen belly that could very well be carrying a baby abode. A strange sight, to say the least, it nevertheless serves a very interesting purpose.

Designed by Japanese architect Hiroshi Nakamura, the House SH was inspired by a kangaroo pouch. Built in Tokyo, the protrusion outside has created a dip inside that embraces people softly and gently just like pouch. Children and adults alike can pretend to be little joeys. Nakamura writes, "Sitting in it and lying in it, the dwellers hopefully form an affectionate relationship with the hollow, like exchanging bodily conversations." Thus, House SH creates a sort of intimacy.
