Flesh-Hungry Plant Statues

Ishibashi Yui Sculptures Portray Human-Consuming Nature

Eerie in their colorless flesh, the Ishibashi Yui Sculptures combine nature and human bodies in a disconcerting way.

The figures portrayed in these sculptures do not seem to be one with nature; rather, they are being consumed by it. Branches and roots protrude from the human bodies, taking over their heads and their limbs, trying to take over the flesh and eat it for nourishment. The plants seem to be sucking the life-force out of the people, soaking up any color in their bodies and leaving them to wither in agony.

The Ishibashi Yui Sculptures are exploring a role-reversal where plants are destroying humanity selfishly instead of the other way around, opening our eyes to the cruelty people can inflict on nature.
