Jennifer Gosnell, Trend Hunter (INTERVIEW)

Trend Hunter Jennifer Gosnell, whose love and passion for politics is palpable, discusses political remix videos in her latest interview. Gosnell explains why this particular video, which pokes fun at presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, was picked as her top choice. Along with mulling over her favorite trend, she also reveals her fondness for scuba diving and gives some useful pointers as to how she uncovers the best trends.

What is your favorite trend and why?

My favorite trend is political musical video mashups. It takes a bunch of things that politicians have said and manipulates them to create a very funny commentary on what they are actually implying. To demonstrate this, I will show you politician rapper remixes featuring Mitt Romney, a presidential hopeful of the United States whose basically saying a lot of embarassing things. What’s great about these is that they are actually things that these people have actually said, and it’s not just something that they are superimposing into their mouths.

How do you define cool?

I define cool as something that I am interested in and what catches my eye. It might not necessarily be something that everyone likes, but if it’s good for me then I think it is pretty cool.

What is your secret to uncovering trends?

My secret to uncovering trends is going to websites I like and seeing what they are sourcing and where they are getting their information from. Then, I go to those sites and I bookmark them for future reference. Then I go to those sites that they reference , which becomes an ongoing thing.

What do you enjoy most about Trend Hunter?

The people and what we write about. We get so much flexibility.

What inspires or excites you?

Something that inspires and excites me is politics. It is what I am taking at school and what I write a lot about here at Trend Hunter. It is always changing, there are always new scandals, new drama, new interesting things happening all the time, which is pretty cool.

What is something new that the business world is heading towards?

Being able to have something shipped right to your door is a convenience that was not experienced even five years ago, which is pretty awesome.

What did you want to be when you were younger? 

I wanted to be a scuba diver or a marine biologist and then I realized that I sucked at science. The scuba diving thing may still happen but I am more interested in writing, news and substance.

What is a trend you see taking off in the future?

An upcoming trend I could see is eco-recyclable scuba diving gear. I am not sure if that’s actually a thing, but if it is I would totally buy some.

I love Trend Hunter because it is simple, direct and supercharged.
