From what can only be defined as a spectacular display of color and beauty, the installation 'Global Rainbow' commemorates the suffering incurred to those during Hurricane Sandy.
The light show, which takes place in NYC was created by artist Yvette Mattern and is made up of seven beams projected from the Standard Hotel in Chelsea. Each beam projects its lights to the locations that were hit hardest by the hurricane to send a message of hope and unity. The artist articulates that the purpose of the exhibition is to serve as a reminder that “we are all in this together, regardless of divisions of class, race, religion, and culture.”
The light show Global Rainbow will occur Friday November 30, 2012 at 2am, and is a project funded in collaboration with the Art Production Fund and The Standard hotel.
