The Gocen Detector Scans and Plays Handwritten Sheet Music in Real Time

The project headed by Assistant Professor Tetsuaki Baba at the Toyko Metropolitan University enables the Gocen detector to scan and play handwritten sheet music in real time.

The detector is able to detect keywords for instruments and automatically adjusts its program to play the desired instrument. Aside from playing prescribed notes, the detector can also be shifted upwards or downwards -- especially for stringed instruments -- to raise or lower the pitch. For stronger louder notes, all the musician has to do is enlarge the size of the note.

The Gocen detector is an easy way for starting or aspiring musicians to experiment with different sounds and tunes by getting an immediate feel for the different melodies.
