Paper Apps

Uniform & Novalia Turn Paper Into Electronics Using Circuits & Conductive Paint

Both paper and technology are all around us, and now the branding agency Uniform and the engineering and prototyping firm Novalia have merged the two to create paper apps, or paper-printed electronics.

The paper apps concept was introduced at SXSW in Austin, Texas, where a poster called 'The Listening Post' advertised bands and also played sample tracks from the bands whenever one of the posters' thumbnails was pressed. Paper apps like the Listening Post are created using basic electronic circuits and printing the paper with conductive paint and ink. The result is paper that allows people to interact with it, much like a digital app.

As Pete Thomas from Uniform says, "Printed Electronics is an emerging technology with huge potential to change the way we interact with each other and the everyday stuff that’s all around us."
