Camargo Valentino Artwork is surreally strange. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, artist Camargo Valentino uses the technique of old masters, but blends it with pop cultural iconography.
Influenced by the artwork of Diego Velasquez, Norman Rockwell, Odd Nerdrum and Kris Lewis, Valentino takes classical styles, and as he states on his website paints, "what I am most attracted to; icons, comics, movies, history, art, sports figures, hip hop, my heritage and world myths. So my paintings are a combination of all these things rolled into one with a splash of myself.”
Within each work, Valentino attempts to tell stories patiently, taking anywhere from 40 hours to 200 hours. His paintings capture a Burger King-crowned Muhammad Ali fighting a butterfly, superheroes as children -- even a Mickey Mouse-hatted Francis Bacon.
