New York is selling their old prisons. Various jails in New York are going to be available for purchase. These old confinements have huge facilities, properties and have unused facilities. The Oneida Correctional Facility in Rome has a handball court, and a jail in the Hudson Valley has a 16-car garage and lake shore view. Others property's include a jail in Schoharie Country which has sewage treatment plants, a chapel and carpentry workshop.
These jails are being sold by the State of New York as they try to find new ways to cut costs and raise money. During the 1970s to 1990s in New York the prison populations skyrocketed, but since then this number has fallen. This has left many jails unused, and as budget issues arise more jails will be shut down.
