Galactic Art Installations

'Space Program: Mars' by Tom Sachs Brings Outer Space to Earth

For Design Week, American artist Tom Sachs recreated the workings of outer space and brought it to earth.

The art exhibition is a conceptualization of the NASA mars mission. It's called 'Space Program: Mars,' and the art installation is a meticulous interpretation of the actual objects and stations used in galactic exploration. The re-conceptualization includes sculptures that take form of the actual Mars landscape, exploratory space cars, launchpads and mission controls.

The four-week exhibition was located in a 55,000 square foot space, the perfect area to give him enough room to complete his artwork. Tom Sachs' exploration into this work is an exploration of NASA closing its shuttle program and the ordeals that followed, such as the start of privatized space travel.
