Serene Sailing Art

The Jacob Hashimoto 'Armada' Installation is Haunting and Calming

Uniform in color and immensely serene, the Jacob Hashimoto 'Armada' installation combines high visual impact with calm imagery.

Hashimoto, who is based out of New York, is known for his work with natural materials. His newest release, which is making a tour across the blogosphere, is an absolute wonder to behold. Uniformly white and wooden, Armada feels like a wonderfully soothing break for the eyes, and seems to emit quietness. The installation features over 700 suspended sailboats, but somehow manages to avoid coming across as overly busy or distracting. Carefully designed to move in a calculated wave-live formation, the hanging boats remain calm even when there’s a bit of motion in the ocean.

Gorgeously simple and remarkably exact, the Armada installation is a hushed but powerful creation.
