Cardboard Photography Devices

The IKEA ‘Disposable Camera' is Digital

The latest IKEA ‘digital camera’ was released last week in Italy at the Milan Salone event. The photography device is almost entirely disposable, made of a combination of cardboard and AA batteries. The Swedish furnishing brand gave the product away as a part of a press kit, and with the capacity to store up to 40 images, guests were pleased with the freebie.

The use of cardboard in the form of a digital camera is novel here, and may present new recyclable approaches to the fine arts community. Most digital cameras are made of dense material, difficult to rework into new products. IKEA has however demonstrated that there is a way around this issue, and that modern features like the USB connector can also be included within such a framework.
