The 'Utopian Man and Woman' Series by Gino Rubert is Perceptive

In his series 'Utopian Man and Women,' artist Gino Rubert explores how gender roles and expectations, especially in the context of romantic relationships, have evolved since the birth of the feminist movement.

The series examines popular portrayals of relationships and how such portrayals reinforce gender roles. In essence, these works seek a sort of normality that is slowly being constructed from the ruins of traditional views on how men and women should behave towards one another and society at large.

However, the sociological underpinnings of the series shouldn't detract completely from Rubert's superb and inventive illustrative style. The figures are cast in odd proportions and dark, opaque colors. This aesthetic lends the art work an uncertain quality that is fitting with the theme the series is focuses around.
