The Alex Daw Paintings for ‘Nostalgia' are Ambiguous

Alex Daw has delved into his own mind to create these abstract mixed media pieces for the Rook and Raven exposition ‘Nostalgia.’

The exposition features a series of artists assigned with the task to not only evoke nostalgia, but define it through artistic representation. Alex Daw is caught in between fine art and street art, but his idea of nostalgia is concrete. Daw works through mixed media, using old magazines in collages. The mashup of forgotten pop culture and experience creates a glossy juxtaposition with rugged acrylics used.

The physicality of the layering process is immediately nostalgic in contrast with graphic design. Daw’s works appear instinctive, and heavily emotional. The involvement of artist and open engagement with the audience pull in traditional ideals of gallery-visiting. Alex Daw’s collection for ‘Nostalgia’ is a wonderful curation of color, creation and consciousness.
