Antique Entomology Branding

3 Pairs Packaging Channels Insect-Collecting Nostalgia

There is an academic artistry associated with the collection, archiving and displaying of insect samples that seems to have been forgotten by time. 3 Pairs packaging is one graphic design student's attempt to breathe life back into the old avocation through the reinvention of an encyclopedic visual style.

Jessie Usié was assigned to conceive a product for which to establish a brand identity. A line of empty jars, bottled chemicals, envelopes, pinning blocks, display cases, precision utensils, labels and even a butterfly net was created, assembling a kit of tools and accessories for bug-loving hobbyists.

Intricate grayscale illustrations of moths and beetles mark 3 Pairs packaging, referencing the sorts of images found in biology textbooks from hundreds of years past. Old fashioned typefaces and compartmentalized labeling afford the dignified aesthetic of 19th century design.
