There is something visually striking about a conglomeration of human bodies, and the New York-based artist Angela Musco knows how to create one of the most mesmerizing human art pieces I’ve seen in a long time. This beehive of bodies swimming in dark water is intriguing and certainly proposes a wide variety of artistic and real-life interpretations.
Musco’s creation is so rich in meaning that it requires close examination. From far way, this humanized school of fishes is a gorgeous formation of shapes, but from a closer angle this orchestra of bodies becomes even more intense. Each of the thousands of bodies have unique poses and faces, as if each one was trying to fight for their own existence. This gigantic mosaic is simply surreal and reminds viewers of literary works like the The Divine Comedy, where life, birth, death and confinement co-habit together in one reality.
Represented in the US by Carrie Secrist Gallery, Angel Musco is a genius whose life has not always been easy; however, her art is so fascinating that it’s impossible to go unnoticed.
