The Warplanning Tablet hopes to change the way we conduct battle by creating a perfect conduit of information between the planners and practitioners of war.
Developed by AAI Corp, the smart surface provides satellite footage of a hypothetical warzone and indicates the locations of squads, air support, drones, etc. Housed miles away from the front-line, generals will be able to drag and drop units to engage the enemy. While the action of moving a virtual icon won't actually move the unit (except for drones), it will send orders which are then confirmed via instant message. Ostensibly, if you're capable of reading a map and using a touchscreen, you're basically prepared to organize a war! My thinking is that, considering this emerging technology, war in the future will just be a complicated game of virtual chess.
