Morbid Mythological Creatures

Mitchell Landsman's Unicorn Illustrations are Depressing

Mitchell Landsman's unicorn illustrations are a unique, dark twist on an otherwise cheery mythological creature.

The harrowing unicorn illustrations feature the creatures being chopped up for meat, hanging upside down in a butcher's shop dripping blood. On the other hand though, the artist also illustrates these beautiful creatures as destructive and evil, from stabbing one another to fighting during sex. Illustrator Mitchell Landsman creates these illustrations to contrast the persona that society has created for these fictional creatures.

These unicorn illustrations are truly not for the faint of heart.

Implications - Mythological creatures have many different depictions, and though they do not actually exist, society is very strongly attached to their perception of fairy tale beings. That being said, these mythological creatures make for great subject matter for today's sarcastically humorous, rebellious artist. Thus, an array of works mocking mythology can be observed as a form of rebellion against society.
