Civilian-Designed Military Rides

The Flypmode Concept Car Wins the DARPA XC2V Challenge

The Flypmode concept car has won the DARPA XC2V Challenge and will be made into a fully-functioning DARPA prototype. The Flypmode Concept Car was designed by Local Motors, who took home the first place prize of $7,500.

The acronym XC2V stands for experimental crowd-derived combat-support vehicle. The Flypmode concept car is rugged and surrounded by windows, which lets soldiers defend from all sides when under attack. The Flypmode concept car has a variety of seating configurations and can hold cargo in addition to soldiers. This car should be a sight to see when it is unveiled by DARPA. I think it's great how DARPA is looking towards civilians to design its vehicles. There is a wealth of untapped talent out there that could possibly make even DARPA's craziest dreams come true.
