Robert Mearns Paints Strangers and Friends in This Gripping Series

Artist Robert Mearns is a young and talented artist who resides in Vancouver, Canada. Recently graduated in 2007, Mearns has been making a name for himself. He brands himself with the slogan, “Art not only a mother could love” and I definitely agree with that.

In Robert Mearns' series Blue Blocker, he captures a number of individuals that were either his friends or plain strangers he has met at random places. The painted portraits boast very little color, with red and yellow accents in places certain areas. The grayscale color scheme helps bring out the immense number of details that Robert Mearns puts into his paintings.

The expressions in the paintings are serious, quirky and even aggressive. I’m hoping one day I’ll bump into Robert Mearns on the street and he’ll make a portrait of me.
