The Proyecto Falsos (Fakes Project) are fakes of certain cartoon characters (generally children's cartoons) that proliferate in Argentinian streets, mainly in carousels, children's hairdressers and fun fares. An involuntary and mis-shapen museum of copies: a Mickey Mouse that looks like a dog, tabby Pink Panthers, Batmans eating cotton candies, bewitched Bart Simpsons, psychedelic Popeyes:.
Everything about these cartoons is mysterious and fascinating. Who drew them? Is he a cynic, a self-conscious cartoonist? Or is he a touching and authentic lover of cartoons, a pure soul? What is his overall vision when painting? Is there a model? Or does the brush determine its whimsical directions till reaching these surprising versions? Where do these drawings come from? Why are they repeated over and over again?
Grown-ups who draw for kids and they do it as if they were kids, fake and hallucinatory reproductions of grotesque heroes, rusted action figures that have lost the colors and insist on laughing, always far away and always at a step from disappearing, always at meters from forgiveness.
Juan Pablo Cambariere, the artist who promotes this idea often says that there is a weird beauty behind all of this.
