Mexico will celebrate 200 years of independence by building two skyscrapers, each shaped like ellipses. The towers mimic each other in shape and movement.
Vasquez and Wedeles Architects won the competition to design the Tezozomoc and Xochimilco towers. One extends geometrically from a square at its base, and is shaped by four extruding squares twisted on their vertical axis, to a rectangular tower at the top. As a nod to their heritage, the center of the building marks the direction of the sun.
These twisting volumes generate vertical spaces that are used as air ducts where air can be filtered and recycled back into the atmosphere.
