Toyota Motor Corp is set to become the first major automaker to use solar power for a vehicle. Toyota will install solar panels on some of the next-generation Prius hybrid cars. The power generated by this auxiliary system will be used for the air conditioning.
Toyota will use solar panels made by Kyocera Corp on the roof of the high-end version of the Prius, which is getting a redesign early next year.
The cumulative sales of the popular Prius have already topped 1 million units worldwide.
