High Tech Mascara

The Lancome Oscillation

Men know little about makeup. What they will know about the new Lancôme vibrating mascara applicator, is that whatever it does, it’s friggin’ cool! Known simply as the “Oscillation,” this Bond gadget of a purse-stuffer takes all the difficulty out of getting the desired effect from your eyelashes. Separating and fully coating each lash in no time, the Oscillation will no doubt be popular, if not pricier than the leading retail variety.

At a cool $34, the Oscillation is pretty reasonable for a disposable piece of electronics, especially considering it’s likely to outlive the latest MP3 player you bought. It’s available through lancome-usa.com/ and comes so far, in black only. Other brands have been developing similar products, such as the Alibaba model, which is not quite as flashy or strongly advertised, and a slew of Brand-X copycats.

The Oscillation is not the first of its kind, however. This new trend’s precursors include LED backlit compacts, light-up eyeliner applicators, and tweezers with built in magnifying lenses. In fact, with the aid of the internet, I’ve come across a revamped, battery operated version of just about every accessory, from the pure genius, to simply useless.

It just goes to prove that frivolous-but-fun electronics are no longer exclusively male territory.
