Child-Friendly Train

Japanese Public Transit for Kids by Eiji Mititooka

Japanese kids are ready to get on board with a new concept in child-friendly public transport.

The designer, Eiji Mititooka, had the intention to give passengers a more comfortable experience, and that included everyone, including women and particularly children.

Mititooka transformed two regional trains which operate on a daily basis on the 14.3km kishigawa line to 'omoden' (toy train) and 'ichigo ec' (strawberry train).

Both trains are loaded with hundreds of toys, TV screens showing cartoons, immaculately clean wood flooring and cots for younger children.

Guess, who's the stationmaster? His name is Tama. You can see him featured in the last photo.
