Water-powered Jetpacks

Jetlev-Flyer is a new personal flying machine

People have dreamed of personal flight for eons but the one major stumbling block is the need to carry enough fuel for a long enough flight. The new Jetlev-Flyer uses an alternative technology to get you airborne. It does use fuel but the main propulsion medium is water. It is being marketed as a water sport so crash landings will safely be on water.

The Jetlev-Flyer can get the average person to “an altitude of 10 m, top speeds of 65 km/h and has a cruising duration of 1 - 2 hours”. The company hopes to develop future models which will allow the flyer to range over 300 km and perhps even travel underwater.

Short Sharp Science also wondered if the unit could be developed for fire fighters to ascend buildings quickly and douse flames at the same time.

The Jetlev-Flyer is selling for $230,000.
