This futuristic, hi-tech installation in the center of Harajuku, Tokyo, is in fact, an online game portal store for mobile phones. The Flatflat, the work of Sako Architects, was developed with NHN Japan Corporation, in order to allow visitors to experience “Hangame."
The idea behind the design was to combine virtual elements with open spaces, while representing the modern society of real and virtual environments. The organic principle is echoed in the the curved lines and cave-like spaces.
The user is encouraged to snuggle up to the curves of the forms, which are based on human dimensions. The “inorganic principle” is the white walls, neon lighting and cracked concrete flooring. One interesting note, the stools look like oversized marshmallows, maybe that’s to make you feel hungry too!
