Along the southern shoreline of Philadelphia's Bartram Garden, the FloatLab floating pathway is set to arrive by 2022. The circular floating pathway will allow visitors to walk on Philadelphia's Schuylkill River. Designed by the Boston-based firm Howeler + Yoon Architecture, the project will act as an art installation and a learning lab.
The pathway is the brainchild of Mural Arts Philadelphia and will be colored lime green and designed in a ring shape. As guests walk through the ring, the FloatLab will change in elevation. This form of marine engineering creates points where visitors walk at eye level with the river. The design aims to reconnect people to their natural setting by exploring the river in an educational and innovative way.
