The Picklestone is a revolutionary fermentation tool that illustrates the growing prevalence of Millennial maker culture. With more consumers crafting their own beer, and fermenting their own vegetables, DIY pickling kits and kitchen accessories are on the rise.
Drawing inspiration from ancient Japanese pickling tools, Tomonori Tanaka created a portable version of a larger kitchen essential that he grew up with. After realizing that most traditional fermentation tools in Japan were too large to fit in his fridge, the inventor created a miniature solution that is more convenient without sacrificing results.
Offering professional pickling results at a fraction of the price, the Picklestone consists of a glass cylindrical jar, a secure wooden lid, and stone-crafted seal. Once a pickle maker has prepped their vegetables and brine, they can slide the wooden and stone lid on top of the mixture. The fermentation tool does the rest once sealed and is conveniently sized to fit the liquids shelf of one's refrigerator.
