Lebanese women as young as 18 now have the means to fund the liposuction they year for to help them fit into spring's incessantly hip skinny jeans.
“Lebanese women are known to be seekers of beauty and fashion, so they always follow the latest trends in everything, even cosmetic surgery,†said plastic surgeon Dr. George Abu Fadel.
Not even a country ravaged by political and economic crisis can deter a people of their pursuit for perfection. The Lebanese continue to value body shape, and with it, plastic surgery.
Lebanon's First National Bank has posted billboards across the country, from major cities to the 'burbs, in an effort to promote its new offer to give out loans to cover cosmetic surgery costs. From $1,000 to up to $5,000, the bank will help fund the beauty operations.
As reported by the Khaleej Times, “the demand for physical perfection in Lebanon has increased since the billboards were posted.â€
Most in demand are surgeries for nose jobs, liposuction, collagen and Botox injections.
Cosmetic surgery is no longer just for the affluent. The loans make it possible for anyone to fund the procedures. “A lot of 18 to 22-year-old women who only earn $500-600 a month want to do liposuction in the hips,†Fadel said, adding that they couldn't afford the surgeries in the past. “Now with this loan they can afford it.â€
It's not just women pursuing this new trend. There has been an influx of Lebanese men unhappy with their schnozzes, too.

“Whether there is instability of economic hardship, the Lebanese people want to stay beautiful. They love life,†Fadel concluded.
