Barbie Torturetography

Is This a New All-American Pastime?

The photographer Tom Forsythe first sparked the secret desires of many when he released his first Barbie torture photos a few years ago. His work featured Barbie in a blender, caught up in a bed pan, and even cooked up with some enchiladas.

When Mattel heard of the plight taking place with their beloved blonde, they did what only felt natural--they sued Mr. Forsythe. Four years later, with the help of ACLU, and $2 Million dollars in legal fees, Tom was able to win the right to free speech in his art.

Since then, there have been a slew of Barbie dismemberments. Even children seem to consider torturing Barbie as another form of 'playing.' Demonstrated in this gallery is our obsession with taking Barbie out of her perfect life context and seeing if she is really still smiling in the photographs.
