Oil Tankers Conserve Oil With Massive Sail

German based company SkySail is going back to basics offering giant sails for large industrial container ships and tankers. The sails allow the ships to conserve fuel. The main problem is deployment. The maiden voyage of the first ship with this technology, the MV Beluga SkySails, is expected in 2007.

Implications - If there is an easy way to make a pre-existing product more environmentally friendly, it's wise to invest a little time and energy into it. There is a large consumer base that is very concerned with the state of the Earth and they are actively seeking brands and companies who share those views to purchase from.
