When you sort your mail, does Symbolist art come to mind? Probably not, but Gustav Klimt was the inspiration behind this eco-friendly portrait made from recycled print ads.
We have featured Schimmel Art before, but this special edition Klimt themed piece, along with her new pieces which integrate metallics, made it worth mentioning the work of Sandhi Schimmel again.
Schimmel creates her mosaic-style artwork from upcycled paper waste, using everything from old menus and greeting cards, to event fliers and business cards.
Schimmel first makes a painting, then affixes tiny paper scraps in according colors on top.
Some of her inspiration comes from mosaics by Byzantine, Louis Comfort Tiffany and Antonio Gaudi.
