If all goes well, the Minneapolis Target Center, a sports arena, will be sporting a green roof as shown in the photo, come February 2009. The Minneapolis’ Target Center green rooftop will cover an impressive 113,000 square feet. It’s estimated that due to its size, the roof has the ability to capture 20 million gallons of storm water which will help minimize toxins entering into the Mississippi River. We’ve seen a few, but not nearly enough in my opinion, companies taking global warming seriously and entering the small but growing trend of incorporating organic rooftops onto their structures. Personally, I hope to see more.  Peter MacDonagh, lead designer of Kestrel Design Group, said the green roof will capture 20 million gallons of stormwater each year, and will help prevent the flow of toxins and other contaminants into the Mississippi River.
