Heart-Beans is not your typical coffee grinder, as it is set to operate according to the user’s heart-beats. The taste of the coffee changes each time according to your heartbeats.
Heart-Beans is a critical design piece, aimed to criticize our consumerism and consumption culture. In a world obsessed with materials and possessions, and in our race to buy more and more, we forget to enjoy the things we do have. To use Heart-Beans, you must caress and hug it as you would a baby. This results in an inevitable emotional bond with it.
According to the designers, “Consumerism is tempting us on a daily basis: more objects, food, cloths and other products, some of which are not necessary at all. We are exposed to endless commercial content and other media that shape our perspective of what we should be, look like, and buy. It would seem that with time, we develop a certain numbness for the true needs of every person, and get carried away by the material world.”
Heart Beans was created by students of “Food for Thought” course, department of jewelry at the Bezalel academy for arts and crafts.
