Did you know that you can buy and sell noble titles? In several European countries, it’s possible to purchase titles of nobility ranging from Duke or Duchess all the way up to Prince or Princess and everything in between. The prices range from $49.00 gift certificates up to $160,000.00 depending on the title and the supposed “credibility.” This has caused quite a bit of controversy among royal houses, especially since the possibility looms for fraudulent acquisition of British titles in particular. Genuine titles are hard to come by, but in Germany, authentic nobles are offering their titles through marriage or adoption. The demand for a noble title is growing, probably for business and corporate image purposes to gain a larger degree of trustworthiness among industrial colleagues, not to mention a more marketable business card or letterhead.  In Germany however, I have stumbled across several websites offering through marriage or adoption, truly genuine titles (albeit German) to solvent individuals seeking a noble title for the purpose of bettering their corporate image or for various personal reasons to gain recognition in upper class circles. According to German legislation passed in 1919, the noble titles do not remain as such, but are judicially acceptable as a name supplementation the world over.
