British supermarket and grocery store chain Waitrose, which has well over 300 locations across the United Kingdom, has taken the unique step of making caviar mores affordable for the average customer through the introduction of capelin caviar.
Whereas the typical and highly expensive caviar uses sturgeon roe eggs, this new Waitrose offering makes use of capelin roe, which is very popular in Japanese cuisine as a topping for sushi rolls.
Launched at a price point of around $6.87 for each 100-gram container, this new line of capelin caviar is well and truly positioned to be far more accessible than conventional caviar, a well-timed move given the growing popularity of homemade sushi.
