Canada Goose has launched a re-commerce platform that will aid consumers looking to swap out their pre-loved garments from the brand. Through the ‘Generations’ platform, customers can trade their Canada Goose outerwear and clothing for a gift card that can be used online and in shops throughout the US on a platform powered by Trove.
Consumers can also browse various "famous styles," such as legacy pieces and limited-edition products like retro items from the company's extensive history.
“Canada Goose Generations is our purpose in action – a tangible and meaningful way to keep the planet cold and the people on it warm,” said Carrie Baker, president of Canada Goose in a statement. “We build products that last a lifetime and each one has a story to tell. Generations extends their collective tale while minimising their environmental impact.”

What's Driving This Trend
- Re-commerce Platforms
- Establishing a re-commerce platform offers the opportunity to build customer loyalty by recycling owned products that are valuable to customers.
- Legacy Item Upcycling
- Encouraging a brand community to revitalize older limited-edition items gives an exclusive twist to both the brand story and the renewed items to capture new customer demand.
- Circular Economy
- A move towards a circular economy through re-commerce reduces manufacturing when consumers can swap like-for-like items in the same quality and converts materials that might otherwise contribute to waste and pollution.
Who This Affects Most
- Retail
- By establishing a re-commerce platform, clothing retailers can enhance customer engagement and brand story.
- Fashion
- Encouraging the upcycling of limited-edition and legacy items could be a vehicle to renew a brand story and increase demand.
- Sustainability
- A circular economy with re-use and re-commerce could be the key solution to the textile industry's massive environmental footprint.
