Bird Population Down But Not Out - Study Shows Drop in California (GALLERY)
[Edit]
A new study released by the U.S. Geological Survey and the National Audubon Society reveals a significant drop in the bird population in California.
“This study looked at over 40 years of data and saw California species declines of 74% all the way up to 96%,” sources said.
This has been a continued trend coinciding with urban development that destroys the natural habitat of all bird species. The most significant negative impact has been on the Grosbeak, the name given to several species of seed-eating passerine bird with large bills, in the finch and cardinal families. In the last 40 years, the Grosbeak has dwindled down to 3.8 million from a population of 40 million.
