Don’t be surprised when the waiter drops off a condom with your bill at this restaurant. The Cabbage & Condom Restaurant in Thailand is trying to create AIDS awareness by promoting contraceptives. Would you like some tips on family planning with that steak? Contraceptive awareness is a major theme in Thai campaigns these days, due to the country’s soaring rates of the disease. Cabbage & Condom hopes to make contraceptives as widely available to the public as vegetables are in public markets. Every diner receives complimentary condoms. The restaurant’s decor is condom themed: condom-clad mannequins, displays of condoms from around the world, and various posters advocating family planning.
"In keeping with the fun approach PDA has taken to the promotion of condoms for population control and community health, the Cabbages and Condoms Restaurant needless to say has a major theme of condoms. The world's largest collection of national brand condoms is displayed around the walls and the carpet up the stairs has cartoons of typical condoms for various trades and professions woven into the fabric. Instead of serving after dinner mints, there are bowls of condoms located at the exits just in case."
