OpenAI is giving its AI agents a softer face with dots, round-the-clock helpers that let people hand off routine digital chores through a friendly avatar instead of a text box. Each dot is built as a personal assistant with an emoji-like look and learns a user's habits over time, so repeated tasks can be handled with more context.
With ChatGPT Voice Mode, a user can speak to a dot and hand over tasks in a more natural back-and-forth. Connections to more than 4,000 apps, including Slack, let it follow work across the software people already open all day. That shifts the assistant role from answering one prompt to carrying a thread through multiple tools.
For competitors, the target is no longer a chatbot that waits for typed prompts. OpenAI is pushing the category toward persistent assistants that speak, remember preferences, and sit across the apps where work already happens.
