Culture-Merging Restaurants

Sous les Cerisiers by Ralston & Bau Merges Opera and Geisha Themes

Located in Paris is this chic restaurant called Sous les Cerisiers (’under the cherry trees’). Designed by Norwegian designers Ralston & Bau, the interior merges Parisian and Japanese culture. Fitting, because the restaurant combines Japanese and French food.

The interior was designed to be theatrical and took inspiration from classic opera from Paris and geisha cultures from Japan. Besides the architectural detailing, scenographic layers, costumes and shadows cast throughout the interior contribute to the theme.
