Tokyo-born designer Maiko Takeda, a graduate from Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design in London, has recently showcased her thesis project that is conceived in the form of a shadow-inspired jewelry line.
Takeda, who currently works as a costume jewelry designer for the high-end brand of Erickson Beamon, explores the possibility of shade provided by a piece of jewelry as yet another adornment for the the human form aside from the piece of jewelry that is worn itself.
On her mission statement for her thesis project, Takeda states that “the light, the shadow and the body all work together to create an installation work, in which the shadow remains secret but when revealed, forms the main part of the jewelery.”
Subtle elegance and timeless sophistication are qualities exemplified in many of her jewelries despite the minimal, geometric elements that each piece consists of.
