Iverse Media Puts Superheroes on Your iPhone, iTouch or Android

Wouldn’t it be sweet if during your daily commute you could whip out your mobile device and read your very favorite comic? I don’t mean Garfield or Peanuts (though they are legends in their own right), I’m talking superheroes… well, Iverse Media is making this pipe dream a reality.

It just makes good sense doesn’t it? As super-geek Ghostbuster, Egon Spengler so stoically put it, “Print is dead,” and it appears to me that traditional comics are also going the way of the Dodo. And why not? In it’s new digital format, it’s cheaper, certainly friendlier to the environment, and you’ve got to imagine all sorts of special features, that simply could not be pulled off in traditional print will be coming down the pike soon. Plus, did I mention it’s a lot cheaper?! Some of the back titles are even free downloads, but most go for 99 cents a pop. 

Here’s another cool feature, this isn’t just for iPhone or the iTouch. Google’s Android platform just got its first title, Hexed, and other mobile carriers will follow suit. It looks like various mobile manufacturers will land specific titles so the million dollar question becomes: Where will the likes of Spider-man, Batman and Wolverine call their digital home?

For now, you’ve got some pretty cool titles like Shadowhawk (Image Comics) to wet your whistle and it’s really worth checking out. The artwork, the beautiful colors, the smooth screen transitions all add up to a very pleasurable 2.0 comic book experience.  Whether you still intensely collect all your favorite titles, or if you haven’t seen the inside of a comic book store since the mid-90’s, it doesn’t really matter, this new medium is brilliant and here to stay.
