'Vegetal' by the Bourellec Brothers Mimics the Forest

Ronan and Erwan Bourellec took four years to develop and create this universal chair for indoor and outdoor use. The chair was inspired by the historical gardens of the 20th century and was for Vitra.
The Bourellec brothers observed how young trees grew into furniture-like structures through careful care and pruning. Their guiding question was how to construct a chair that appears to be grown.

According to the Bourellec brothers, "'Vegetal' features flat branch structures woven in three levels to form a round, slightly irregular seating shell. On the underside, the chair is stabilized by ribs that grow out of the supportive legs."

This ‘Vegetal’ chair is made from durable die-cast fibre- reinforced polyamide. An important stage of the process was transforming the circular branch sections on the outset into a T-profile.

The Bourellec brothers have also just finished designing their new showroom, which they've just opened at Kvadrat in Copenhagen.
