The Train Bus

Multi Modal Travel

JR Hokkaido developed a dual mode vehicle (DMV) that can run on both road and train tracks. It is economical and fuel efficient. 200 people already have their ridden inside the DMV throughout its trial run. The Fuji Municipal Government was planning to introduce the vehicle to operate between the Shin-Fuji Station and Fuji Station.

Implications - Governments are looking for new and exciting ways to attract people to public transportation. Private actors can step in and provide transit services for citizens at-large. This reflects an ongoing trend toward eco-friendly, fuel-efficient and futuristic transportation, which will no longer be a choice but will soon become a necessity due to the earth's diminishing resources and its population boom.
