The general look and operation of the Sewing Box Cabinet might be familiar as a whimsical exaggeration of an item found at grandma’s house. Indeed, Kiki van Eijk was inspired by the antique haberdashery storage system with the goal of creating a quirky, memorable and functional piece of furniture.
Instead of comprising a stack of shallow trays, this dresser is composed of a collection of much deeper drawers and cubbies that pull apart from a broad trunk-like base. Between the chest and every other compartment are pivoting wooden arms that enable the unit to expand and the eight individual crates to separate.
Three deep boxes and five shallow ones provide ample space for stashing a variety of possessions. The Sewing Box Cabinet would be useful in the bedroom, the family room or the living room.
