Playgrounds as Art

Frank Gehry's Playground in NYC's Battery Park

Thanks to Gothamist we know that there are plans for a playground designed by Frank Gehry for the NYC Battery Park, the “Birthplace of NYC”. An excellent example of city marketing I would say.

Implications - When designers/architectures create monuments, buildings or in this case, a playground, it adds an interesting aspect to a metropolitan. More importantly, it's a way to market and make the city more attractive to potential tourists who may have an interest in making a visit. Unique structures and displays help define a city and it's often the best way to advertise it as a vacation spot.
