Fake Muscle Captures
The Kurt Stallaert 'Bodybuilders World' Collection is Macho

By: Vivian Lau (Star) Jul 12, 12

The Kurt Sallaert ‘Bodybuilders World’ set of portraits is a stunning-but-scary rendition of an imaginary society.

The Belgian photographer employs the aid of digital editing to complete this personal project. Using photographs of kids in their everyday settings, like by the pool, at a desk or at story time, they are each digitally enhanced with Schwarzenegger-like frames. Thee typical settings are juxtaposed by the instinctively uncomfortable professional athlete bodies that complete their young statures. Both commenting on youth’s damning fight against body image as well as society’s obsession with over-achievement, Sallaert has created a spectacular piece of art.

In producing a set of photographs as disturbing as they can get, Sallaert has achieved the shock factor he strove for. He prompts viewers to look past the initial facade of normalcy and into the deeper issues preying upon the subjects.
