Shattered Frozen Flowers

The John Shireman Broken Flowers Series is Beautifully Battered

The Jon Shireman Broken Flower series is an impressive look at the broken beauty of various frozen, shattered flowers.

To create these photographs, Shireman soaked several flowers in liquid nitro for over 30 minutes at a time before smashing them to pieces. Shireman used a special spring-loaded contraption to smash the flowers against a hard surface going at high speeds. Shireman then photographed the destructive remains of these once-beautiful flowers on a blank white surface.

The best part of these photographs is that, although these flowers are no longer seen as the beautiful objects they once were, they still have an essence of elegance to them. It could be due to the fact that the audience can now see the flower broken down into the tiny bits and pieces that compile its overall beauty.
