Joelle Aeschlimann Turns the iPad into a Visual and Melody Masterpiece

The Joelle Aeschlimann 'Little Boxes' project brings you the modern upgrade of an old music box. This one plays lullabies too, except through your iPad.

Music and quirky visual animation are generated from the iPad when the crank on these cute wooden blocks is rotated. The key is to have placed the box on the iPad, as the Adobe Air for iOS senses the pressure and synthesizes mechanical movement into visual content. Some of the materials used to create this digital dream are rubber tips from pens and a conductive metal crank. This prototype was created as a part of her studies at ECAL.

This is an unprecedented example of the flexibility of tablets—they are full of untapped possibility and potential.
